This past weekend, from the 11th to the 13th, Vigor and I (Vida) went to MAASU LR! It is short for "Midwest Asian American Student Union Leadership Retreat." It's basically a time when students from all over the country, primarily from the midwest region come together, meet, and learn about each other's campuses and just grow from the inspriring student leaders from all over. This year's LR was at University of Illinois at Chicago and the theme was Grass Roots.

Grass Roots

It really was a neat experience. It was my first time attending MAASU in general whereas Vigor goes frequently due to being a Executive Coordinating Committee (ECC) member. He's the Membership Outreach Co-Chair! I met a lot of fun and new people and the banquet at the end was really entertaining especially with the performers that the awesome planning committee reached out to.

Happy belated Halloween!
There hasn't been too to update. A lot of organizations have hosting a lot of events recently so please go to those if you can! Again, for a full update as to what events, please refer to the calendar to the left.

From now on, I am going to start a featured events hosted by other Asian orgs. So here's today's!

HSA, SHADES & AAS:
Anomaly, a documentary film about multiracial identity

Hapa Student Association (HSA), SHADES, and the Asian American Studies Program are screening Anomaly, a documentary film about multiracial identity in Thompson Library at 7PM.

"Anomaly is an award-winning documentary that provides a thought-provoking look at multiracial identity by combining personal narratives with the larger drama of mixed race in American culture. The characters use spoken word and music to tell their stories of navigating identity, family and community in a changing world. Community leaders and academic experts contextualize the issues. As it unfolds, Anomaly tells a story that is deeply personal, yet broadly American."

There will be refreshments and a follow-up after the film as well.

Hello people! As you can see, the website is gradually being updated here and there. To the left of our main news feed, we have a calendar of events that happen on campus or occasions involving campus organizations, for example, MAASU (Midwest Asian American Student Union). You can actually subscribe to the calendar as well if you have a Gmail account! Just click the "+Google Calendar".
Also, if you're part of an organization and you don't see your event on there, please send your upcoming events to AAA's Email and we can add them to the calendar!

Also, we are transitioning our Facebook Group to a Page so that people can access our Page easier. Of course, feel free to join our group as well!

The third week of classes will begin shortly! Hope you all had a pretty good start in the year! And until next time!
